La nariz de José huele mal.
Medical Spanish for healthcare providers: dialogue 10 (The nose of José smells bad.)
nasal foreign body - cuerpo extraño en la nariz
Rodolfo: Hoy traigo a mi hermano, porque está botando un líquido por la nariz, y huele mal.
(Today I bring my brother, because he is discharging a liquid from the nose, and it smells bad.)
Doctor: Déjame verte José. Estuviste jugando con frijoles, ¿no es cierto?
(Let me see you, José. You were playing with beans, isn't it true?)
José: Bueno, sí, estabamos jugando a ver quien podía meterse el frijol más grande dentro de la nariz.
(Well, yes, we were playing to see who could put the largest bean inside the nose.)
Doctor: No me digas más. Ya lo sé. ¡Tú fuiste el ganador!
(Don't tell me more. Now I know it. You were the winner!) Note: The word "digas" is present subjunctive.
Rodolfo: ¿Así que eso es lo que tienes? ¡Mamá estaba preocupada sospechando un cáncer!
(So that is what you have? Mom was worried suspecting cancer!) Note: The expression "lo que" can often be translated as "what," or "which."
José: ¡Lo siento! Sólo estábamos jugando...
(I am sorry! Only we were playing...) Note: "Lo siento" means "I'm sorry," but literally means "I feel it."
Doctor: Okey, José. El frijol provocó una infección nasal. Voy a usar éstas pinzas para sacar el frijol de ahí. No dolerá.
(Okay, José. The bean provoked a nasal infection. I am going to use these tweezers to take the bean out from there. It will not hurt.) Note: "Okey" is not yet in the dictionary, but is universally understood in Latin America. Just don't use it on your homework assignment!
José: Uauuu. Realmente el frijol era grande.
(Wow. Really the bean was big.)
Doctor: Ahora te voy a indicar tratamiento con antibiótico y anti-inflamatorios.
(Now I am going to prescribe for you a treatment with an antibiotic and anti-inflammatories.)
