Spanish Grammar - Contractions and Changes
Spanish grammar lesson 5: contractions and conjunction changes
The following are rules of grammar in Spanish:
1. The prepositions "a" (to, at, toward) and "de" (of, from) sometimes precede the masculine singular article "el" (the). When this occurs, a contraction must be used.
2. When the conjunction "y" (and) precedes a word that begins with "i," then "y" must be changed to "e."
3. When the conjunction "o" (or) precedes a word that begins with "o," then the word "o" must be changed to "u."
Exercise: Read, listen to, and repeat aloud the following examples. Observe the contractions and conjunction changes.
